BAROQUE CELEBRATION / CASTLE AND CHURCH OF ŽINKOVY
Access to the church with rare statues will be offered from noon to 6:00pm. Guided tours will be provided with a musical accompaniment. Extraordinary tours with a programme and a Baroque feast await visitors in the castle. Tours begin at 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 4:00pm, 6:00pm and 8:00pm.
The town of Žinkovy, set in the gently rolling landscape of the south of the Pilsen Region, has always been a place where things happen. Even today, thanks to its convenient location on the main routes of Klatovy–Nepomuk and Pilsen–Sušice, it is a popular destination for trips, vacations and weekend getaways.
The cultural monuments that have accompanied the people of Žinkovy for centuries include the Gothic Church of St Wenceslas, located in the centre of the town. It is significant, above all, for its unique sculptural decorations by the eminent regional Baroque artist Lazar Widemann. Widemann was a Czech sculptor and carver working predominantly in the Czech lands. He was the most important and probably the most talented artist of the generation immediately following Matthias Bernard Braun. Besides the church, visitors are mostly attracted by the Žinkovy Castle, which, thanks to the ongoing reconstruction, is growing in beauty and lures visitors for walks in the surroundings. Its rich history was rewritten by the historical reconstruction, so this time the Baroque style will be presented primarily through the prepared programme.
From noon to 6pm, the Žinkovy Church will be accessible and every hour students of the Pilsen Conservatory will play here a short musical recital. Admission is optional, capacity is unlimited.
Žinkovy Castle will be enlivened during 1 July by unconventional tours with a rich programme as well as a Baroque feast. The programme will involve historic music in the castle chapel, a unique Baroque menu and Baroque studios with an aromabar, creative workshops etc.
The cultural programme, which is held in three-hour cycles, starts at 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 4:00pm, 6:00pm and 8:00pm.
One cycle of the guided tour involves:
– a Baroque concert by the harpist Katarína Ševčíková in the newly opened castle chapel
– a Baroque feast, a four-course menu with music and dance
– individual entertainment in various studios and the aromabar
