CONCERT OF BAROQUE MUSIC / VEJPRNICE CHURCH
14 July | Tuesday 7:00pm – 10:00pm
Guided tours of the church with concert performances by Ensemble Inégal.
Vejprnice, lying in the shadow of Pilsen city, offers Baroque grounds with an artistic statement ranking among the best in the Pilsen Region. The life of this town was recorded in writing for the first time in 993, from when it developed along with its owner, the Benedictine Monastery in Břevnov, later with the Monastery of Premonstratensians in Chotěšov. Vejprnice is also associated with several noble houses, the most influential of which were the House of Vrtba and the House of Lobkowicz. During the era of the Vrtba nobility, the church was rebuilt in a Baroque style by František Maxmilian Kaňka with the direct participation of the architect František Ignác de Prée. It was equipped with excellent furnishings, realised by the most significant West Bohemian artists such as the sculptor Lazarus Widemann, who created nearly fifty sculptures here, and the painter František Julius Lux. At the end of the Baroque era, the church acquired a unique organ from Antonín Gartner (1769-1770), a famous organ builder from Tachov.
Visitors will be welcomed in Vejprnice by guides in historic costumes. After the opening, they will be able to join guided tours of the church, as well as be invited to experience historic refreshments while listening to an improvised music block. The main programme of the evening will offer a concert performance by the group Ensemble Inégal taking place in the church.
