A JOURNEY IN SEARCH OF LIFE-GIVING WATER / PLANÁ
20 July | Monday 4:00pm –9:00pm
An outing along an old pilgrim trail which concludes with a garden party in the park of Chodová Planá.
Pilgrim trail Planá – Chodová Planá
The Journey in Search of Life-Giving water is a hiking trail between the villages of Planá and Chodová Planá and the pilgrimage site of St Anne. The route includes a pilgrim trail with a Baroque alley and a small chapel, the Baroque Church of St Anne with a small chapel and a spring, the industrial estate of the Chodovar brewery and a hikers' destination – a grove where you can currently encounter attractive land art installations. This trail has not as yet been discovered by tourists. Only a few people are aware that the locality is home to attractions such as a chapel concealing a spring of "life-giving water", a tomb of the Nostitz family (the original owners of the decaying castle in Planá) and many more surprises. The town of Planá has built a new path leading to the Spring of St Anne, extending up to the park in Chodová Planá. Count Hans Ernst von Berchem started landscaping here in the middle of the 19th century. The park originally spread over an area of 47 hectares (116 acres), with a medieval Jewish cemetery in its centre. Back then, the count also established a modern, richly equipped observatory in the park, which no longer exists. When a pseudo-Baroque castle was built in 1906, the Vienna architect R. Feldscharek redesigned the land as an English park.
A Journey in Search of Life-Giving Water
The Journey in Search of Life-Giving Water is conceived as a tour around a tourist trail featuring interesting stations and a cultural programme. The event starts at 4pm in Planá, with a meeting at the plague column on the square. Points of interest along the journey: a Baroque lime avenue featuring torsos of the decorations adorning the former pilgrim trail, the pilgrimage Church of St Anne by Planá, a gazebo once roofing a "miraculous" spring at St Anne, the castle park in Chodová Planá, the grove by the Virgin Mary near Planá. The first part of the trip offers a Baroque-themed guided walk; the second part is conceived as a garden party in the park of Chodová Planá, with refreshments and a cultural programme. The entire event will open the week of Baroque in the areas of Planá and Tachov.
