ALONG THE TRAILS OF PILGRIMS / PILGRIM CHURCH OF ST ANNE, TANABERK
3 August | Monday 2:00pm – 7:00pm
The opening of the church, music recitals, narration about the place and its guardians.
Tanaberk, the landmark of the Všeruby pass, with the pilgrim Church of St Anne by the Baroque builder Marco Antonio Gilmetti. A place where humans meet history. The Crusaders who were fleeing from the Battle of Domažlice in 1431 surely had to make their escape through the stretch of land below Tanaberk as they were panicking under the chorale chanted by the field troops. The impressive cathedral Gilmetti built on Tanaberk is a true architectural feat, absolutely unique among the sacral buildings of South-West Bohemia. Today, the place serves once again as a meeting point for people from both sides of the border – one which has been reduced to a mere imaginary line on the map.
Within the festival programme, we are opening the otherwise closed church to all pilgrims and visitors who accept the invitation to this wonderful holy place. Here, guests can look forward to Baroque music recitals, a narration about the history and the present of Tanaberk, and an exhibition of paintings as well as small refreshment. The unique panorama of the Bohemian Forest and Upper Palatine Forest that can be admired from Tanaberk offers an indisputably powerful experience.
